James Rustad is vocalist and bassist for the classic rock/blues group Citizen Pine, based out of Burlington, Vermont. His musical influences include Paul McCartney, Jerry Jemmott, Joe Osborn, James Jamerson, Jack Bruce, John Paul Jones, and Duck Dunn. James favors an old-school bass sound with his Fender Jazz bass strung with Ernie Ball Group II flatwound strings.
James has played bass with singer-songwriter Will Bradford of Seepeoples, singer-songwriter Sparxsea, and Cuban composer, arranger, and musical producer Raul Guara.

The Discover Jazz Festival is an annual multi-day event featuring live music over many venues in downtown Burlington, Vermont. James played bass with KeruBo at Burlington Discover Jazz Festival on Top Block Stage at Church Street. KeruBo is a singer from Kenya who performs African Traditional Music with inflections of Brazilian Samba, Jazz, and Blues.
James Rustad is an electric and upright bassist from Burlington, Vermont. He has performed at venues such as Top Block Stage at Burlington Discover Jazz Fest, Higher Ground, Nectar’s, Radio Bean, and Lamp Club Light Shop. His musical styles include rock, jazz, funk, and classical. He was a member of South Burlington High School Jazz Band and Combo, Vermont Youth Orchestra, Vermont All-State Music Festival, Phillips Exeter Academy (PEA) Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra, and graduated PEA with a music prize. He has 25+ years of performing experience.
